Study No. 2: Ode to the Overachiever

I see you. I see the way you manage
the myriad of motivating mandates
that dictate and direct your life.
I see you racing, so full of hope,
aching to accomplish
something that is worth something.
I see the disappointment and the rebounding determination
in the face of setback. I see every experiment, every idea, every
conversation and every time
you step outside the comfort zone
in the name of personal progress
with a vision for lasting change.
You know all the things to do. You do all
the things you know. You eat, pray, love, exercise,
cold showers, hot saunas, yoga, meditate, yearly
physicals, dental cleanings, sunscreen, plant a
garden, read to the kids, sit on committees, bed by
ten, up by five. And on a good week you even
reserve an hour to just sit and do nothing.
I see how you see. This is a good life. There is little
you would change, and nothing you want for.
No reminders. No didactic message. Only a note
to say, I see you and to say thank you for
giving it your all.
